In African Traditional Religion beads are worn on the neck , wrists , ankles , hair and waist . Beads were worn to convey specific information about the family background , clan or wealth . Beads are / were used for prayer , rituals , anti - tension devices , currency and gaming .

Anklets are worn for medical , spiritual and ornamental purposes . Most common types of anklets are either copper or silver . Anklets can be made using nylon , plastic , leather and beads .
